After 10 years of working in the mortgage business, I was looking for a new opportunity. After all that time, I was still struggling and with the passing of Frank Dodd, it just wasn’t as fun as it used to be. While looking for a new challenge I stumbled upon a meeting called “Cannabis and Real Estate”. It sounded interesting and like nothing I had done before, so I decided to check it out.
That night was truly an eye-opening experience for me. With the passage of cannabis legalization in California, I thought this is the new frontier. In that meeting, I learned so much about the power of cannabis and that its sister plant, hemp, is actually federally legal across the US. It was that very night I called up my friends and decided to start my first cannabis business — a candle company.
Now that I had a goal in mind, I set out to do my own research and make owning my own cannabis business a reality. Not only did I learn about the many benefits of the hemp plant, I began to look deeper into hemp textiles. I learned that hemp is one of the strongest natural fibers, antimicrobial, hypoallergenic, and incredibly good for the environment — it uses much less water to grow, much less space, and it grows quickly, making it a great alternative to cotton or other traditional textiles. If that isn’t compelling enough, hemp is also UV resistant and softens over time!
With my candle business underway, I decided it was time to add another layer to my cannabis cake with a home goods business using hemp textiles. And that’s how Urban Re-Leaf Home was born.
So here I am, in the cannabis business. I hope you will stay with me on my journey and we can make a fun and enjoyable space together.
